Bike Trail to ride rental bikes on San Luis Rey Bike Trail

This is a class I bicycle trail open to pedestrians and cyclists. The trail is about 9 miles, one way, from the coastal Neptune access (west end) to North Santa Fe Avenue (east end). The trail follows the path of the San Luis Rey River and provides riders with the opportunity to see the natural habitat of the region, including a variety of bird species. This relatively flat trail is safe for all age groups, is completely separate from motorized traffic and is free of stop signs and traffic lights.

Along the way you will ride next to the Oceanside Municipal Airport and possibly witness the frequent skydivers plummeting to earth provided by GoJump Oceanside, www.gojump-oceanside.com. We can arrange a ride and jump if you dare!

Located toward the east end of the airport is the Alex Road Skatepark, Oceanside’s newest skate park. The park is located on the northwest corner of Alex Road and Foussat Road. The new concrete skate park is 22,000 square feet and includes street features, two bowls and two snake runs.

A bit farther down the trail about half way is the Mission San Luis Rey. The Mission San Luis Rey is known as the "King of the Missions" and is a National Historic Landmark dating back to 1798. It's the largest of all the 21 missions in California and is still home to a community of Franciscan Friars.

The mission is open daily to the public. There's a museum, historic church, gift shop, cemetery and gardens.

For more information on the mission visit https://www.sanluisrey.org.
